Counselors’ attitudes toward psychedelics and their use in therapy

The ‘‘psychedelic renaissance’’ is generating new evidence for psychedelics’ potential to treat numerous mental and substance use disorders. In particular, the United States Food Drug Administration poised approve psychedelic drugs 3,4 methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) psilocybin in psychedelic-assisted therapy (PAT). This renaissance has led substantial public attention toward psychedelics, state local changes legal status of recent increases rate among adults. Despite these advancements, counseling profession remained relatively disengaged from research general discourse surrounding psychedelics PAT. response this gap, study presents results a survey professionals’ attitudes PATs. Results suggest counselors’ PATs are mixed, unless they medically supervised. Furthermore, most counselors see PAT need additional research.
